Purple Hibiscus

The “purple hibiscus” represents freedom and uniqueness.

The musings for this piece came from different places.

This painting is my “catch & release” response to having read the book Purple Hibiscus by author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi, a second time. The setting for the story is Nigeria. The book was filled with lots of vivid imagery of this special flower: Here are a few references. “rare and fragrant with the undertones of freedom.” “ the purple hibiscus serves as a reminder of joys that should be given space to grow.”

The background is predominantly yellow- a symbol of enlightenment, happiness, clarity, and joy.

If this flower were to have a scent, it would be an exotic one-sweet but also musky.

The painting is characterized by aesthetics found in the Japanese art style of wabi-sabi which appreciates the imperfect.
It snubs the ideals of perfection and embraces, values, and accentuates the natural beauty found in asymmetry, textured surfaces, muted colors and aged patinas.

Remarkable to have musings from various global contexts.
That’s the beauty of art!

My final comment

“ Be a purple hibiscus!”
( Be unique and may you feel free!)
