Layla is a woman of faith, beauty, strength, and courage.
This piece represents the complex facets in the personality of a character in a narrative that I am writing. The collage is an ongoing piece. More individual ‘papers’ will be added as the story develops. The artwork here represents 3 papers- more to come.

This narrative-driven mixed media collage represents a fictional Nubian woman of strength, faith, and resilience who I identify with.
In composition this piece is composed of layered media elements. The artwork is intended to evolve in tandem with a written story in progress. The current triptych of ‘papers’ feature a blend of acrylic, oil pastel, ink, gemstones, and metallic embellishments to symbolize the complexity and richness of Layla’s life.
Each iteration adds to Layla’s mythos, forming a portrait of cultural identity and strength that will continue to shift as ‘her’ story unfolds.
