“Happiness-Hope-Freedom-Rejuvenation”

I painted this picture on one Monday in August of 2020. It was a colorplay exercise. I was trying to capture the colors that might represent the emotions of “ hope, happiness, freedom, and rejuvenation.”
For me and for probably for many others, the past few months there have been many challenges that have faced the human condition; the pandemic, and the BLM movement are just a few. Each challenge has been a test of faith, and a testament of faith, for many....My intention was to create something that might bring comfort gently, yet direct. Hidden in this piece are symbols likened to ‘an amulet of protection.’ These ‘eyes’ of black and yellow are found 7 places in the artwork; they are meant to channel my wish for security and comfort to anyone needing it. The yellow with black is believed by some to assist in channeling well-being, relief from fatigue, and to promote a sharper mind and concentration.

Fast forward to today, July 27, 2021- last night I watched a fellow countryman, win our country’s first Gold Medal, in the triathlon. It made me go back to this painting and complete what I felt had been missing. I added dot detail to describe the exclamatory feeling that comes with VICTORY!!

All in all, this is intended as a pick me up. A sign that you can restart, and be hopeful in whatever endeavor you choose, and that whatever circumstance you find yourself in, someone that cares is watching over you.

The painting began with creating texture in the canvas, followed by an emotional color burst, with gold leaf added in, to amplify the sentiments of the piece.
